2 weeks ago I was on vacation in the Finger Lakes, near where I grew up. My father started the tradition of having the whole family come visit for one week each summer and it is a nice relaxing, low-humidity, lake vacation. I stopped bringing my cameras (well Ok I bring my cameras) and have tried hard to avoid spending the whole family vacation shooting pictures. This year I was successful except for the one shot I took. My brother John Beck, a percussionist and President of The Percussive Arts Society, mentioned that he was running a clinic and was about to email his headshot for the press purposes. I saw the shot and it was old and dated, quite conservative and stiff. And I think he had more hair. We shot at the end of a beautiful day, after bike rides, swimming, canoeing and kayaking, maybe even some tennis and yoga. This was shot in the parking garage making use of the afternoon background light, which was particularly cool and blue that day.
Coincidentally, several years ago, I did the same thing for our father, also a percussionist and past President of The Percussive Arts Society and you guessed it, also named John Beck.
